How do you do a WHOIS for a .CO domain from command line?

Want to script calls to WHOIS for .CO domains, but my whois.exe (from CYGWIN) doesn't know about .CO. What do I do?

whois -h whois.nic.co fallbrook.co

if the first result line contains "Not found", then the domain is available.
